5.3-magnitude quake hits off east coast of North Island, New Zealand -- GFZ

BEIJING, May 3 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 jolted off the east coast of North Island, New Zealand, at 2119 GMT on Saturday, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10 km, was initially determined to be at 37.65 degrees south latitude and 177.93 degrees east longitude.
